Rain Chains   Leave a comment

It rains here. A lot. Hence the term “rain forest,” I guess.

These “rain chains” are everywhere on campus. At first I really couldn’t understand why there were these random pairs of rusty old chainlink hanging everywhere, from the roofs of  buildings. But as soon as it started raining for the first time, it was suddenly so much clearer. They hang over drainage grates and basically just provide an easy, rusty pathway for the rain to get to the drain. Like a lightning rod, but for rain. It’s a pretty ingenious idea, if you ask me.
